Kakadu has been on our ‘bucket list’ for many years, we thought what better way to begin summer holidays than to escape the cold weather and head to the Top End of Australia.

Its coming into that wonderful time of the season when major attractions are opening!
My wife and I visited Kakadu in January 2013, this was our third time there in the past three years.
We set off early afternoon from Gagudju Lodge Cooinda heading towards Gubara in search of the famous Leichhardt’s grasshopper that we had heard so much about!
Waking up in the Gagudju Crocodile Holiday Inn was a different experience this Christmas! The pillow menu made it hard for me to make it down to for breakfast!
For 65,000 years, the people of this Country have known how to read the land, cook from it, celebrate it, and share it. 🌿
On Saturday 23 May 2026, the Taste of Kakadu Festival invites you to experience that connection firsthand through food, art, music, and story in the heart of one of the world's most extraordinary national parks.
Join us for a day of traditional dance, fire cooking, bush tucker, First Nations art workshops, a special festival menu at Mimi's Restaurant, and a sunset filled with live music.
This is Kakadu at its most alive. Don't miss it.
