From 23 to 25 May 2025, Kakadu National Park hosts our an annual celebration of food, culture, and tradition like no other - "Karrimanjbekkan An-me Kakadu - Taste of Kakadu" festival.
It is an immersive experience that brings to life the ancient flavours of the land through Indigenous-inspired cuisine, live cooking demonstrations, and storytelling that has been passed down for generations.
Set against the stunning backdrop of Kakadu, this event offers a rare opportunity to connect with country, learn from Traditional Owners, and experience the incredible depth of Australia’s First Nations food culture. From spear making workshops to hearing the stories behind it, every moment is a chance to celebrate the world’s oldest living culture in a truly unforgettable way.

Kakadu National Park is home to a variety of bush tucker (native foods) traditionally harvested by the Bininj/Mungguy people. Some of the foods found in Kakadu include:
Plants & Fruits 🌿🍈:
- Kakadu Plum (Anmorlak): A superfood with extremely high vitamin C content.
- Pandanus Nuts: Eaten raw or ground into a paste.
- Water Lily Seeds & Roots: The seeds can be roasted, and the roots can be eaten raw or cooked.
- Bush Yams: A starchy root vegetable.
- Wild Figs & Native Peaches: Found in some regions of the park.
Animals 🐢:
- Magpie Goose: Traditionally hunted and cooked over a fire.
- Barramundi: A prized fish found in Kakadu’s rivers and billabongs.
- Long-necked Turtle: A traditional source of protein.
- Mud Mussels: Found in tidal flats and billabongs.
- Buffalo & Wild Pig: Introduced species sometimes hunted for food.

Kakadu National Park, Australia’s largest national park, spans nearly 20,000 square kilometers and is recognised for both its ecological and cultural significance. Home to over 65,000 years of Indigenous history, the park features some of the world’s oldest Aboriginal rock art at Ubirr and Nourlangie.
