Amazing Race Comes to the NT
It has been revealed that the spectacular Nitmiluk Gorge will be the finish line for Channel 10’s The Amazing Race Australia. Tourism NT has partnered with Jetstar to co-sponsor the season and showcase the beauty of the Top End to a national audience.
For thousands of years the Jawoyn people have maintained their culture and traditions through the stories passed from one generation to another – the Dreamtime. Nitmiluk is the Jawoyn name for Katherine Gorge. It is pronounced Nit-me-look, and literally means Cicada Place. Nitmiluk National Park, just 30 kilometres north-east of Katherine, covers a vast area and includes 13 impressive gorges carved from sandstone country.
The area is a tourism hotspot, with visitors able to explore the park on foot, by canoe, cruise boat or even from the air. There are beautiful natural swimming holes, ancient rock art, and walks that range from a relaxing stroll to challenging multi-day hikes.
Katherine is only a 3.5 hour drive from Jabiru and is a great destination to continue your journey to after a visit to Kakadu.
The Amazing Race Australia follows teams of two, including Darwin couple Jerome and Jasmin, as they race around the globe in an attempt to be the first to cross the finish line in Katherine and win $250,000. The finale will feature the Top End’s beautiful landscapes and local adventure activities. The Amazing Race Australia airs on Channel 10 on Monday and Tuesday nights at 7.30pm.
