Maguk Falls (Barramundi Gorge) – 4WD Required. 

After late dry‑season rains delayed opening, Maguk Falls officially reopened on 14 July 2025. Nestled in a lush gorge, the walk leads to a refreshing plunge pool surrounded by towering cliffs and rainforest—truly a photographer’s dream. Facilities include a carpark and toilets, though access requires a 4WD for the final stretch .

Gunlom Top Pools, Image by Tourism NT


Gunlom Falls – 4WD Required.

Reopened 4 July 2025, marking the return of this iconic site for the first time since 2019 . The top pool and campground are accessible once again, but the lower pool remains closed due to a large saltwater crocodile still being tracked. Cultural signage recounts the Jawoyn people’s connection to the land, and safety warnings urge visitors to “Be Crocwise”.

Jim Jim Falls – 4WD Required.

Opened 6:30 am, 12 July 2025, following road and crocodile safety works . The dramatic cascade plunges beneath towering cliffs. A 2 km return walk brings you to the plunge pool, and for the adventurous, the 7 km Barrk Marlam escarpment circuit leads to the top. High‑clearance 4WD access is required.

Swimming at Top of Twin Falls Plateau Walk


Twin Falls Plateau Walk – 4WD Required.

The 6 km circuit atop the escarpment is now open as of 14 July 2025 . This strenuous hike rewards you with sweeping views of the escarpment and sandstone formations. Note: Twin Falls gorge itself remains closed for infrastructure upgrades until the 2026 dry season.

This route is a moderate challenge due to its steep elevation and 6km-return length, best recommended for experienced hikers or those looking for a big day out. Despite the challenge, this trail is sure to take your breath away, with incredible escarpment rock formations and spectacular views across the floodplains and out over the tops of the iconic Twin Falls waterfall.

Lower Falls at Ikoymarrwa (Moline Rockhole) by Tourism NT


Ikoymarrwa Top Pools & Moline Rockhole (Lower Pools) – 2WD Access to Top, 4WD Required for Lower.

Top Pools: like mother nature's infinity pool, with its remarkable views over the floodplains. Much like Gunlom, which is closed due to cultural reasons, you can take a refreshing dip while your eyes feast on the scenery.

Lower Falls (Moline Rockhole): Recent updates in the Access Report confirm Ikoymarrwa rockholes are now open by 4WD. This picturesque locale features a series of plunge pools downstream from Moline Rockhole (aka lower pools).

Boulder Creek Falls Wet Season


Motor Car Falls & Boulder Creek– 4WD Required.

Motor Car Falls is a hidden gem tucked deep within the southern hills of Kakadu National Park. Accessible year-round and particularly stunning in the Wet Season, this 7.5 km return hike takes you through lush monsoon forests, across rocky ridge-lines, and into one of Kakadu’s most rewarding swimming holes. 

Boulder Creek offers a quick swim close to the carpark, with a nearby lookout over the South Alligator catchment.
