It's time to hit the road as the Travel Guides drop into sunny Northern Territory!

For Aussies seeking a sunny holiday, the top end isn't necessarily top of mind. But it should be.

With a blend of ancient Aussie culture, laid back locals and the unique Kakadu National Park, could the Northern Territory be the perfect winter escape?

Stream new episodes of Travel Guides on 9Now.

Flying into the most remote capital city in Australia, our Guides have gone off road and off-grid deep into the heart of Kakadu.

Home to the world's oldest surviving culture, with the local indigenous people living here for over 65,000 years, it's no surprise 200,000 folks make the trek each year.

"This is the real deal," beamed Janetta as she took in the awe-inspiring landscape of our own backyard.

Joining her on this magical escape was husband was husband Kevin, hilarious duo Matt and Brett, best mates Kev and Teng, besties Karly and Bri and the Fren Family who, as it seems, have "hit the jackpot".

The Guides stopped at Kakadu Billabong Safari Camp along the emerald banks of the Jim Jim River.

Here, the traditional owners put on a one-of-a-kind bush tucker spread with foods harvested from the land they've called home for thousands of years.

And 'one-of-a-kind' was certainly one way to describe Kevin and Janetta's unique dish.

"All I can see is a claw poking out and I'm thinking, this is going to be interesting," she said.

But don't let the claw fool you, this meal "was to die for" in Victoria's words.

"This was nothing like the cultural experiences we know of," said Kevin in disbelief.

"It was the most delicious meat," Janetta sung her praises. "This is the real deal. This is exactly what you think of when you think of Kakadu."

From $259 per person, you too can experience the unique flavours and stories of the Northern Territory.

As for the crocodile friends watching over you?

"We've hit the jackpot. Being on the Billabong at death's edge was just worth it for the barramundi" Victoria laughed as she dug into the freshly baked fish.

Sure sounds worth it to us!
