Why Shopping Blak Matters

When you buy directly from Aboriginal-owned businesses or artist collectives, your money stays where it matters most — in community.

Blak-owned businesses are 100 times more likely to employ First Nations people, meaning every dollar spent helps create opportunities, preserve culture, and strengthen connection to Country.

Here in Kakadu, your purchase has an even greater impact. During the wet season, heavy rains and flooding often cut off remote communities, making it difficult for many local artists to travel, sell their work, or access supplies. With tourism numbers slowing right down, art sales through the Warradjan Cultural Centre and Ochre Art Gallery become a vital source of income — helping artists support their families and continue sharing their stories and culture through their art.

Wet Season Cuts of Remote Indigenous Communities

Here in Kakadu, your purchase has an even greater impact. During the wet season, heavy rains and flooding often cut off remote communities, making it difficult for many local artists to travel, sell their work, or access supplies. With tourism numbers slowing right down, art sales through the Warradjan Cultural Centre and Ochre Art Gallery become a vital source of income — helping artists support their families and continue sharing their stories and culture through their art.

At Warradjan and Ochre, you’ll find authentic, locally made art and gifts that tell stories of Country, tradition, and identity — not mass-produced imitations. From hand-painted canvases and didgeridoos to woven baskets, prints, and jewellery, each piece carries the artist’s story and connection to Kakadu.

Buy Real. Buy Local. Buy Blak.

Make your purchases count this Blak Friday — support genuine Blak businesses and help keep culture strong through the wet season and beyond.

Fill your cart with meaning. Whether you’re shopping for Christmas gifts or something special for your home, you’ll be helping sustain living culture and creative independence for First Nations artists.

Two Galleries, One Purpose: Supporting Art and Culture Across Kakadu

Kakadu Tourism is proud to support two Indigenous art galleries — each with its own story, setting, and connection to Country. Together, the Warradjan Cultural Centre and Ochre Art Gallery create pathways for visitors to connect with the region’s art, culture, and people — while providing vital income for local artists.

Warradjan Cultural Centre – On Murumburr Country

Just one kilometre from Cooinda Lodge, the Warradjan Cultural Centre is a community hub for Kakadu’s Indigenous heritage. Designed with guidance from Traditional Owners, it’s a place to learn, reflect, and engage with Bininj culture.

Inside, visitors will find interactive museum displays, art exhibits, and opportunities to sit on Country and weave with Bininj artists and Murumburr Traditional Owners. The Warradjan gallery store offers authentic art, weaving, carvings, and gifts created by artists from Kakadu and surrounding communities — with every purchase supporting those who keep culture strong, especially through the quieter wet season.

Located inside the belly of the Crocodile Hotel in Jabiru, Ochre Art Gallery brings Kakadu’s colours and creativity to life. This vibrant space showcases Bininj artworks alongside locally made products from Indigenous Kakadu businesses, including Kakadu Organics.

Ochre connects travellers in Jabiru to the stories and traditions of Kakadu’s artists, offering a chance to take home something real — a piece of Country, made by the hands who know it best.

Why Two Galleries?

Kakadu is over 20,000km² — a living cultural landscape that stretches across multiple clan estates. Having two galleries under Kakadu Tourism allows artists from different parts of the park to share their stories, reach more visitors, and earn income year-round.

Whether you’re staying at Cooinda or Jabiru, you’ll find a space that celebrates the creativity, culture, and resilience of Kakadu’s First Nations artists.

Together, Warradjan and Ochre keep culture alive — on Country, for community, and for generations to come.
