Depending on the season, guests will explore a waterfall, rock formation, or sacred cultural site such as Gunlom Falls, Maguk Falls, Kubara Pools, and more. While you can self-drive with a 4x4 to these attractions, our guides bring each place to life with local stories and cultural insight. Travel in air-conditioned comfort and experience the true spirit of Kakadu. Designed for agile and surefooted travellers, this adventure involves climbing over rocks and navigating uneven terrain, and is not suitable for children under 8 or people with mobility limitations.

What to Know Before You Go:

Where to meet (15 mins prior)

Meet at the Cooinda Lodge bus stop at 6:45 am, or be ready to depart from Mimi’s buffet breakfast at 6:30 am.

*Note: The buffet opens at 6:30 am — you’ll have 15 minutes to enjoy before departure.

Today marks the winter solstice in the Southern Hemisphere - our shortest day of the year. 🌒
And in true Mother Nature style, the universe keeps giving. In just a few days, on the 29th, a full moon will rise over Kakadu and like the Traditional Owners who have read these skies for tens of thousands of years, we're reminded to slow down and look up.
For Bininj and Mungguy peoples, the cycles of the sun, moon, seasons and country are not separate from life - they are life. The six seasons of Kakadu aren't just a calendar. They're a living map of when to hunt, when to rest, when to move and when to gather. A knowledge system tens of thousands of years in the making.

Today, as the rest of the world marks the solstice, we're reminded that in Kakadu, this kind of deep attunement to nature has never been lost. Some places don't just show you the world. They reconnect you to it. 🌕
