Cooinda lodge, in the heart of Kakadu National Park is a resort style oasis, with facilities including: fuel station, general store, 2 swimming pools, restaurants, bars, neighbouring cultural centre, tour bus stop, laundry facilities, air conditioning, airstrip and boat ramp to the adjacent home billabong.
Mimi's restaurant at Cooinda Lodge offers comfortable indoor dining with air conditioning all year round. During the cooler months, from March to September, we additionally open the alfresco Barra Bar, adorned with fairy lights for a balmy outdoor dining experience. Alongside this, our Too Deadly Takeaway fish 'n' chip van, The Smoking Croc BBQ house, and the early bird coffee cart are also available, each featuring traditional bush-tucker flavours combined with modern culinary techniques. While these seasonal offerings enrich our guests' experience during the cooler months, Mimi's remains consistently open throughout the year.
Cooinda is located in the Southern end of Kakadu, and is a perfect base for most tours. All Kakadu Tourism tours are based out of Cooinda, including Yellow Water Cruises, Kakadu Adventure tours and Yellow Water Fishing, and it is a short walking distance to Warradjan Cultural Centre. The Southern end of the park features most swimming holes and waterfalls including Maguk, Jim Jim Falls, Twin Falls, Ikoymarrwa, Boulder Creek, Motor Car Falls and Kubara Pools.
Nourlangie (Burrungkuy) Lookout is one of those spots that just stops you in your tracks. The views stretch across the Kakadu escarpment and floodplains, with layers of history and landscape all in one frame. It’s the perfect place to pause, take it all in, and feel just how vast and ancient this land really is.

Kakadu is famous for its Aboriginal art sites, sweeping escarpments and dazzling views over Arnhem Land, and Ubirr offers all three! Make sure you take in the world renowned X-ray art along the 1-kilometre circuit walk, as well as the rainbow serpent sketches, before following the moderately steep trail up to the lookout to watch the sun slip into slumber over the Nadab floodplains.
Please note that vehicle access is limited to high-clearance 4WD vehicles only due to high water levels at Magela Creek.
