🐊 They look so chill as they cruise their way along the Yellow Water Billabong but don't be fooled!

Saltwater crocodiles mostly feed on fish but may also take turtles, birds and large land animals such as wallabies, dogs, pigs, horses, cows and buffalo.

Like all reptiles, crocodiles rely on the environment to regulate their body temperature. While basking in the sun, they open their jaws wide to prevent their brains from overheating (although an open mouth can also be a threat).

Mature crocodiles compete fiercely for territory, sometimes fighting to the death. After a dispute, the defeated crocodile may travel hundreds of kilometres in search of new territory.

Remember, when in the NT to be croc smart!

Kakadu’s rock art is of enormous international significance. Kakadu National Park has one of the world’s greatest concentrations of rock art sites. Some paintings are up to 20,000 years old, which makes the artwork one of the longest historical records of any group of people on Earth.

The paintings provide a fascinating record of Aboriginal life over thousands of years, and show the close personal relationship Bininj/Mungguy share with their land and spiritual heritage.

Our main rock art galleries are at Ubirr and Burrungkuy (Nourlangie). Look for naturalistic paintings of animals, traditional x-ray art, and paintings of early contact with European people. It is an incredible feeling to see these with your own eyes and is a must do when you visit Kakadu.
