Kakadu's biggest secret is the upper and lower Ikoymarrwa Falls
Lower Ikoymarrwa Falls, also known as Moline Rock Hole, is a shaded freshwater haven, conveniently located just a short stroll from the carpark. Ideal for a refreshing dip, this hidden gem is best explored during the early dry season, from April to June, when the weather is perfect for outdoor adventures and the falls are still flowing from the wet season. Make sure to pack your snorkelling gear, as the crystal-clear waters reveal an underwater world teeming with small fish. If luck is on your side, you might even share the aquatic space with a warradjan (pig-nosed turtle)!
Meanwhile, Upper Ikoymarrwa falls is like mother nature's infinity pool, with its remarkable views over the floodplains. Much like Gunlom, which is closed due to cultural reasons, you can take a refreshing dip while your eyes feast on the scenery. To find this secret haven, you'll need to spot the small sign on the right-hand side of the main road, coming from Cooinda direction, after passing the Mary River Ranger Station. Please note, it is not sign-posted.

Lower Ikoymarrwa (Moline Rockhole)
Moline Rockhole is a secluded and serene swimming spot tucked away in the southern reaches of Kakadu National Park. Also known as Lower Ikoymarrwa Falls, this shaded freshwater haven is just a short stroll from the carpark and offers the perfect escape for a quiet dip in nature.
Fed by a small, picturesque cascade, the rockhole is at its best during the early dry season (April to June), when the falls are still flowing from the wet season rains and the weather is ideal for exploring. The crystal-clear water makes it a fantastic place to snorkel—keep an eye out for schools of small fish, and if you're lucky, you might even spot a warradjan (pig-nosed turtle) gliding by.
Shady spots and calm waters make Ikoymarrwa a great place for families to relax and enjoy the outdoors. There are a couple of picnic tables for a casual lunch, but please note there are no toilet facilities on-site.
Ikoymarrwa is an unmarked, special-permit area accessible only through a few select tour operators. The turnoff is around 5km past the Mary River ranger station on the Kakadu Highway, and you’ll need a 4WD to reach it via a short dirt track. Its relative inaccessibility means it’s often beautifully quiet—perfect if you’re seeking a more peaceful spot away from the main crowds.
